Four-Part Harmony

The church is a unique gathering that surpasses any human body. It is not the gym; it is not the school, it is not the PTA. It is a special assembly of people who belong to Jesus Christ. At Eastern Shore, we approach our Lord through three primary avenues.

The Harmony of Worship

Worship is no spectator sport. We all worship. There are no specially trained singers who perform. Instead, we all join together, blending our voices in praise to God. We join our hearts together in prayer and our minds and thoughts together as we assemble weekly around the Lord's table. The preaching is solely Bible-based and teaches clear, simple, Bible answers to the problems of today. Our goal is to worship simply, like the original Christians who were guided directly by the Lord's apostles and the Holy Spirit.

The Harmony of Study

We come to know Jesus better through a study of his word. We place a high priority on knowing God's word. Each individual is encouraged to do his own study. To help, we assemble for Bible study on Sunday morning and Wednesday night. Classes, by qualified teachers, are provided for all ages. We also offer two Bible studies during the week for women and two for men. Our young people are part of an active group that studies the word through devotionals as well as their Bible classes. From time to time we provide specialized seminar-style lessons on important topics.

The Harmony of Service

Jesus teaches his people to care for and serve one another. We take that to heart. Service comes in many forms. Individuals from Eastern Shore are often found carrying meals to the sick and infirm. Sometimes the meals are part of an organized effort to serve someone in need. At other times, our people simply learn of a need and rush to meet it. We are found serving monthly at the Ronald McDonald House in Mobile. There, we provide a freshly cooked meal for the families of children hospitalized at Children's and Women's Hospital. We purchase, pack and deliver Holiday Gift boxes to those in our area who struggle during the holidays. Of course, we are also active in disaster relief efforts and are involved in works across the nation.

The Harmony of Evangelism

We are incredibly loved by Jesus. We want to share his message with all who will listen. We seek to study the Bible, in homes, coffee shops or in our building. We provide free literature for study too. Eastern Shore is hard at work in the Caribbean. We work in campaigns in Guyana and operate a Bible University in the south of the country. A medical mission team supports that evangelism working in and through our clinic in Lethem, Guyana. Jesus told his people to take the message of salvation to all, and we are trying to do just that.

There is a place for you at Eastern Shore. We would be deeply honored to have you join us.

Worship Times

We are glad you have visited our website and we hope to join with you in worship. Our service times are limited due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Our Online Connection Guide is available. We will assemble on Sundays at 10 AM and 5PM, and Wednesdays at 7 PM. All other gatherings are in person and via our stream.

We are happy to have your children, regardless of age, join with us in worship. There is no better way to learn than to be a part of the worship.

Where We Stand

There are many religious groups today. Some happily call themselves "denominations." Some are named for people and some for systems are methods found in their teachings. We do not.

The churches of Christ, by using the Bible only, worship in the same manner as the first Christians. We are the church Jesus spoke of in Matthew 16:18 and the church begun in Acts 2. We are so serious about adhering to the word of God that even our name is taken from Scripture (Romans 16:16). The BIble teaches, and we believe, that truth can be known (John 8:32)

The Eastern Shore church of Christ is not a denomination and does not name itself for any common man. We belong to Christ. We are his people and we are his body. As such, we live and worship according to his teachings while renouncing the innovations brought by man.

We worship every Sunday. Members of the church partake of the Lord's supper every Sunday and members give financially to support the work of the local church. We do not expect guests to contribute. Our singing is vocal only. We do not use any mechanical instrument. Why not? Because the original Christians did not. Only singing was ever authorized to the church of the New Testament and that is where we stand. Our songs are led by men who bring a variety of songs and styles to our worship. All songs are Biblical and teach eternal truths.

We welcome you to our services and hope you will bring your entire family. Check us out, ask questions and discuss your needs with us. I'm sure you will find Eastern Shore to be the place for which you are searching.

Welcome!

Thank you so much for visiting our website. We hope you will also visit us at one of our services. The Eastern Shore church of Christ belongs only to Christ. We are not associated with any denomination and honor no creed but the Bible. Our worship is simple and aimed to please God. He alone is the object of our worship. We are not in the business of entertainment. Instead, we praise God and encourage one another just like the original Christians of the first century.

Some of our worship may be unfamiliar to you. Everyone participates and we seek to be orderly in our worship (1 Corinthians 14:40). We sing acapella (without instruments), we pray, we commune around the Lord's table, we hear preaching that is Bible based and we give. You will be neither embarrassed nor troubled by our worship although you will be challenged to live more like Christ.

You will be our guest. Come, seek the Lord with us.

“God bless us every one” is the plea of little Tim Cratchit in Charles Dickens’ immortal A Christmas Carol. Bobbi and I watched the Patrick Stewart version (George C.
